Marketing & Communications Manager at Cyrenians

The primary task of this newly created role is to plan, develop and manage the communication of Cyrenians work to a diverse range of audiences, ensuring that we position ourselves to meet the following strategic objectives:

• Continuing to add to the number of people who know about Cyrenians, like what we stand for and choose to support our work
• Improving the impact Cyrenians has on public policy debates which impact on our areas of expertise

This role will also support efforts to increase unrestricted income via public fundraising appeals and campaigns.

The Relationship and Communication Team, led by the Senior Relationships Manager, supports and leads on three main areas:

i)   Fundraising
ii)  Marketing
iii) Communications (internal and external)

This role will principally focus on marketing and communications but will also support fundraising activity.

Marketing and Communications Strategy: Create and deliver a refreshed marketing and communications strategy that aims to meet our strategic objectives of extending reach growing income, and influencing public policy.

Within this strategy:

• Marketing:

Ensure Cyrenians is visible to an external audience in a way which achieves our strategic aims and reflects our values-led work.
o Identify the needs of those that we serve by segments (‘pillars’) and how Cyrenians meets those needs in a differentiated way.
o Build a better understanding and insight into Cyrenians audience, and use this to deliver more targeted communications
o Identify stakeholders, and planned communications to each of these stakeholder groups
o Plan a rolling two year calendar of public campaigns and activities; ensuring they are delivered effectively and efficiently.
o Work with internal teams to help them develop and achieve appropriate communication targets, and differentiate our services from the competition.
o Lead on the development and production of a range of materials to support our services, with support from the Marketing and Communications Officer.
• Events: With support from the Communications Officer, and where appropriate, the wider External Relationships Team, develop and manage events to support the Marketing and Communications Strategy.
• Public relations: Manage Cyrenians proactive PR activity in support of the Marketing and Communications Strategy. Advise the Leadership Team on PR activity outside the strategy, including reactive and crisis management communications.

Public policy work: Identify and arrange opportunities for Cyrenians to influence public policy on priority policy areas in line with the organisational strategic objectives and Marketing and Communications Strategy.

• Digital Communications: Ensure the organisation is represented in all appropriate digital channels, including our website, and that this communication is on-brand and supports the delivery of the strategy. Review Digital Communications Plan, working with Digital Communications Officer.

• Content Development: Develop the organisation’s ability to share moving, life-changing impactful stories, in a way that is sensitive to those that we support and connects with our audience. We are looking for a storyteller who knows how to craft pithy, insightful, and readable copy

• Internal Communications: Ensure regular, two-way, open communication across the organisation so that all staff and volunteers feel valued members of the Cyrenians’ team and all their activity reflects the organisation’s values.

• Branding: Lead responsibility for maintaining and developing the organisational brand. Also develop an organisational Tone of Voice including review and revision of positioning statements per pillar, and overall positioning for the charity.

• Training: Identify communications and marketing training needs of staff across the organisation and develop and manage a calendar of training.

• Line Management: Develop and support the Ccommunications Officer, within the relevant HR policies and procedures of the charity. Ensure that all staff have the skills and learning opportunities to be highly effective in their roles.
Manage volunteers, ensuring that there is a strong culture and practice of learning development and creating a supportive environment.

• Budget holding: Produce and manage a budget for delivery of Communications and Marketing strategy, in liaison with Finance Manager.

• Monitoring and Reporting: Develop KPIs to demonstrate progress against Marketing and Communications Strategy, budgets and social outcomes/returns, including social media reach and web-site analytics for inclusion in the CEO report to Trustees. Analyse the results of all marketing and communications activity and present findings and recommendations for learning and development.

• Achieve recognition for ongoing communications, campaigns and appeals by identifying and making applications for suitable awards.

Knowledge and Experience
At least two years’ experience of marketing planning and communication at a senior level
Experience of public/third sector relationships through paid and/or voluntary work
A sound knowledge of marketing, PR and digital communications good practice, compliance with standards, and the current regulatory environment
Experience of using digital technology for marketing and/or communications
Experience of managing media relations
Knowledge, understanding and experience of social outcomes and funders’ expectations on evidencing social outcomes
Experience of managing staff
Experience of managing volunteers
Established network and connections

Qualifications
Degree level education or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. CIM to at least Diploma level)

Other
Able to work flexible hours in line with the requirements of the post. Must be willing and able to occasionally travel across the country with some overnight stays away within the UK. Where appropriate, time off in lieu may be agreed.
